This occasion marks the return of photographer Mike Emery to China, as he revisits the cities that first inspired his creative vision. In 1980, armed with his Nikon FE, Nikkormat cameras, Fujifilm 400 color film and Braun flash, he captured not only cruise ship passengers posing in front of iconic landmarks, but also the authentic daily life unfolding on the streets โ a China that few Westerners had witnessed firsthand, and a memory he has cherished ever since.

Over the decades, Mike's personal connection with China has deepened immeasurably. His publications, including Children of China and China 1980 (published in Beijing), have shared his unique perspective with readers worldwide, helping younger generations better understand China's remarkable transformation since the early days of reform and opening-up through his eyes.
